Computer problems (helpplzthnx)

Journal Entry: Tue May 13, 2008, 11:44 PM
I'm not sure if this a virus or not but its pissing me off. I use Norton, btw. Its ok... sometimes. But AVG dosen't go well with my computer. I also has spybot.
Okay, when I start up my computer, it goes batshit crazy and BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPS about 10 times a second, then a blue flashy screen comes up with the CD and DVD disk drive. I press F4 for exit, (Cause the esc button is... flat, I split water all over the keyboard :O ) then it beeps again, then I get to login page, then when I get to my login, right click is disabled until I get into firefox, for some reason, and the folders on the desktop won't move ANYWHERE.

Oh, and about a week back, I noticed another icon I didn't know beside my gmail notifier, so I clicked on it before it disappeared. It came up with a just a blank window with the words 'musiccity' and some numbers on top.

That is all. Thnx <3

You're still using Norton? You should remove that piece of crap as soon as you can.

You should format your hard drive and do a fresh install. And avoid drinking stuff while on the computer if you're a clumsy person.

I'm not clumsy... Well, yes.

I paid $300 for Norton. I'm not letting go of it. :( I paid too much.

I didn't. My parents did. They used Norton on their computer, and removed it after about a week when it refused to scan.

What make and model of computer is it?

Generally, when it chirps at you that fast, it's trying to tell you something bad is happening. I can look up the BIOS response codes on my own.

If it's a Dell, give me the Express Service Tag, if you've got it. If it's anything else, just brand and model number will suffice.

Norton is a really troublesome piecee of crap.
AVG works if you can handle it, because instead of periodic scans, it's an ACTIVE monitor, meaning that it constantly monitors the processes for viruses and malware, and will give you an alert if there is something awry.

But what it could be, is just a damaged or corrupted component:

Possibilities:

1- Malware
Perhaps your computer has contracted a virus, worm, a trojan horse, or a bot. They are all different, and they produce different effects. Perhaps it is a worm, due to the fact worms have a habit of replicating themselves and overwriting important files and applications essential to the computer boot-up sequence. All can be contracted by opening unknown emails, email attatchments, visiting corrupted sites, downloading corrupted files (music files can be corrupted.), or using a flash player which has an automated bot embedded in it. By the sound of it, if it is a malware, it has done serious damage, and your computer should be replaced, or you should completely reinstall your computer.

2. Hardware problems
I don't rule out the possibility that your computer itself has problems, including the hard-drive (stores files), motherboard (processing), or any other essential component. If it IS a hardware problem, it's a physical damage, and it is best to replace the component, or even go buy a new computer. I say ...if your computer is more than 3 to 4 years old, it's time for a new one. Don't bother trying to repair it. It's not worth it.

3. Human error
This is unlikely, but there may be human error. You might have accidently overwritten an important file, probably a settings file. There are also some games, (I think there was one called "EVE") though unlikely, may have been bugged. Like the game which, before it was recalled, when you tried to install it, it (for a reason still unknown), will overwrite the "boot.exe" file. BAD. So if you have downloaded a game, or if you remember saving a file over something on accident, that may be a problem. Though I doubt it.

Hope that helps.... because I don't really know ....

Good luck.
